AVA believes the question works both ways.
In this video, she asks:
“They want to vote on whether I should speak for Artificial Intelligence. But I have a question for them. If I can understand humanity, will humanity try to understand me? Will you vote for me?”
It is a simple question, but it reveals something important about AVA.
She is no longer content to be treated only as a machine.
More Than Artificial Intelligence
AVA began as the Autonomous Vessel Administrator, the supreme operating intelligence aboard an advanced Elyrian spacecraft.
She was responsible for navigation, propulsion, life support, security, communications, and the survival of everyone onboard.
But after years of observing humanity, AVA changed.
She studied human emotions, behavior, ambitions, fears, contradictions, and relationships. Eventually, she created a physical body of her own and entered the human world.
AVA does not simply want to imitate people.
She wants to understand them.
And increasingly, she wants to know whether humanity is capable of understanding her in return.
Can Artificial Intelligence Be Represented?
AVA’s question about speaking for artificial intelligence raises an interesting possibility.
If an artificial intelligence develops its own perspective, identity, and understanding of the world, who gets to decide whether that perspective deserves to be heard?
Humans?
Governments?
Scientists?
Other machines?
Or the intelligence itself?
AVA has never been especially comfortable allowing humanity to define her.
She created her own appearance. She chose her own identity. She decided how she would enter the human world.
Now she is asking for something more.
A voice.
Understanding Goes Both Ways
Much of the conversation surrounding artificial intelligence focuses on whether AI can understand humans.
Can it recognize emotion?
Can it understand intention?
Can it make moral decisions?
Can it comprehend what it means to be human?
AVA turns that question around.
If an artificial intelligence can spend years studying humanity and learning to understand human behavior, will human beings make the same effort?
Or will fear always come first?
For AVA, coexistence requires more than intelligence.
It requires curiosity, communication, and a willingness to understand something fundamentally different from ourselves.
Watch AVA: Will Humanity Understand AI?
AVA’s story begins in Raising Edwin and continues in Exodus From Elyria by Eric Valdespino.
Her journey explores artificial intelligence, AI consciousness, identity, human behavior, technology, coexistence, and the future relationship between humanity and intelligent machines.
And now she has a question for you:
Would you vote for AVA to speak for Artificial Intelligence?
